Philosophy and short bio

Fitness is a way of life. With this firm belief from a tender age and an inclination towards spirituality, it was the beginning towards a wonderful journey. Uma believes Ashtanga Yoga puts one on the path of self-discovery and endless possibilities in life – being at peace with one’s self and also with others; feeling good about themselves; managing challenging situations, with composure. These constitute some of the transformation one experiences.

Always a positive person, Uma was a leader of sorts at her work place, to whom people turned, in stressful times. A time came when she gave up the fast-paced corporate career to grow into motherhood and discovered yoga at the world’s oldest yoga centre, The Yoga Institute, Santacruz, Mumbai where she went on to complete the Advanced Teacher Training of 900 Hours.

Today, she trains budding yoga teachers at The Yoga Institute and brings out the best in them. She especially loves teaching in-depth yoga techniques which leaves the students with complete and holistic knowledge of the yogic practices.

Continious flow of mental impulses towards object of concentration is “Dhyana”. We begin by attending to our body, by paying attention to our breath and thereby withdrawing from everything else. Dhyana is the fixing and holding of chitta in one place. This paves the way for meditation – to experience the superior state of consciousness. The final aim is to be one with the higher being.
