End hours of the shift, office friends, canteen area and yoga for company!
This is how International Yoga Day 2018 was celebrated at Marketcity Resources corporate office in Lower Parel.
It was great fun for us as well since the 25 odd participants made a happy, eager and fun bunch of practitioners for the day. We took them through office yoga stretches for various joints, important asanas for the spine and abdomen, breathing practices for improved lung capacity and Yoni Mudra – the ‘back-to-source’ meditative practice – a beautiful technique for relieving stress, anger and anxiety.
Office goers often undergo a lot of abuse of the back and cervical region because of long hours of sitting at the desk, often due to lack of awareness and habituation to appropriate posture of sitting, standing and walking. The result? Lower back aches, cervical spondylitis, increased risk of slip disc, weak legs, ankle injuries and even lower than optimum oxygenation. These can very well be prevented and addressed through a systematic yoga plan for office employees – one that involves day to day awareness of body posture, daily routines, stress management and muscular relaxation.
It is often seen that the stress-intensive nature of corporate life triggers high blood pressure quite easily. Given the role that heart plays in our being alive, we would all want to keep away from the dangers of hypertension, which again calls for the healing and blood pressure normalizing practices gifted by yoga for the modern man.
These and more inspired the yoga routines that were conducted at the organization.
